GI-Talk: „Queer European Film – History, Community And Trends“ | 04.12.2020
In the frame of the exhibition „Queer as German Folk“ the Goethe-Institut Shanghai invited Michael Stütz, Head of Panorama of the Berlin International Film Festival, as well as director, writer and media activist Kai S. Pieck from Queer Media Society, to an expert talk about queer European films, diversity, and the representation of queer life in film and media.
What are current trends in queer European films, and where do they stem from? How are the communities and queer spaces affected by the Covid-19 pandemic? Michael Stütz will share his professional observations, and point out places of desire in queer history, transnationality in queer European films, and post-migrant narratives. Kai S. Pieck will use a personal approach to share his experience, and to provides insights into discourses about queerness and diversity in the media, emphasizing the importance of showing the spectrum of diversity within LGBTQI* communities, to avoid the internalization of racism and homophobia that can appear, and is often overseen in these spaces.
